Happy Friday Amigos,
Welcome to the next edition of JM’s Weekly Roundup. A quick hit of what’s new at La Matera and a few things that’ve popped up on my radar lately.
TL;DR:
-
La Matera Highlight: La Planta Woven Belt
-
Worth the Read: The Believer by David Coggins
-
Worth a Listen: Sunday Cleaning by Mike O’Leary
-
Brand I’m Eyeing: Chisos Boots
-
Weekend Wisdom: A Reminder from Bill Murray: Relax.
1. La Matera Highlight: Limited Edition La Planta Woven Belt
The Limited Edition La Planta Woven Belt is one of those pieces that’s bold in all the right ways. Clean lines, strong contrast, and that handwoven fabric that gives it real personality.
It carries a bit more presence without crossing into loud territory. If that’s your lane, this one’s worth a look.
2. Worth a Read: The Believer by David Coggins
Been working through The Believer by David Coggins this past week, and it’s been a solid read. It follows a year in the life of a fly fisherman, not just the fishing itself, but the mindset behind it.
If fly fishing is your thing, it’s worth picking up. Even if it’s not, there’s something in there about discipline and commitment that translates beyond the river.
3. Worth a Listen: Sunday Cleaning by Mike O’Leary
Sunday Cleaning by Mike O’Leary has been playing in the warehouse lately. Good mix of R&B and old school hip hop that works in the background without taking over.
It’s become a go to when we’re packing orders and knocking out the to do list. Easy rhythm. Steady pace. Never disappoints.
4. Brand I’m Eyeing: Chisos Boots
The folks at Chisos Boots are doing things right. Handmade, clean silhouettes, and built to actually be worn. Plus, they’re right here in Austin.
There’s something about a well made boot that pairs naturally with a solid belt. Same philosophy. Build it right, wear it hard, let it age well.
5. Weekend Wisdom: Bill Murray
“The more relaxed you are, the better you are at everything: the better you are with your loved ones, the better you are with your enemies, the better you are at your job, the better you are with yourself.” - Bill Murray
There’s something simple and true about that. When you’re wound tight, everything feels heavier. Conversations, decisions, even the small stuff. But when you’re steady and relaxed, you show up better across the board.
Better husband. Better dad. Better teammate. Better decision maker.
Maybe the move this weekend isn’t to squeeze more in. Maybe it’s to loosen the grip a bit. Slow down. Take a breath. Let things unfold the way they’re supposed to.
You might be surprised how much better everything goes.
Alright, that’s it from me. Appreciate y’all being here.
Cheers,
JM
