Happy Friday Amigos,
Welcome to the next edition of JM’s Weekly Roundup. A quick hit of what’s new at La Matera and a few things that’ve popped up on my radar lately.
I’ve been on full-time dad duty this week while Bob’s out of town, so I’m keeping this one short and sweet.
TL;DR:
La Matera Highlight: Diplomático Woven Belt - tried and true classic
Worth a Watch: Adidas Soccer Commercial - not a huge soccer guy, but this is a thing of beauty
Worth a Listen: Chris Stapleton covers Willie Nelson - too good not to share
Brand I’m Eyeing: Marine Layer swim - it’s officially pool season here in Austin
Weekend Wisdom: “The days are long, but the years are short.” — Gretchen Rubin
1. La Matera Highlight: Diplomático Woven Belt
With Memorial Day weekend coming up, the Diplomático felt like the right one to pull forward.
It’s got that red, white, and blue balance without going full fireworks-and-flags. Patriotic enough for the weekend, but still refined enough to wear the other 51 weeks of the year too.
The pattern has some personality, the leather keeps it grounded, and it just works. Denim, chinos, shorts, doesn’t really matter.
Tried and true for a reason.
2. Worth a Watch: Adidas Soccer Commercial
I’m not even a huge soccer guy, but I came across this Adidas commercial recently and thought it was beautifully done.
Great cast, fast pace, incredible energy. One of those ads that actually makes you feel something instead of feeling like it was assembled in a boardroom trying to sell you something.
Feels more like a short film than a commercial, which is probably why it works so well.
3. Worth a Listen: Chris Stapleton Covers Willie Nelson
Chris Stapleton covering Willie Nelson feels like one of those combinations that was always going to work. The algorithm got me on this one.
Been playing it a lot this week and figured it was too good not to pass along. Stapleton has a way of making songs feel heavier in the best possible way.
Perfect soundtrack for a late afternoon drive with the windows down.
4. Brand I’m Eyeing: Marine Layer Swim
It’s officially pool season down here in Austin, and Marine Layer’s swim trunks have been back in my rotation lately.
I used to work there years ago, so I’m admittedly biased, but I’ve always been a huge fan of the team and what they’ve built. They make clothes that don’t take themselves too seriously, but still somehow become the stuff you end up wearing constantly.
Their swim trunks are a good example of that. Comfortable, easy to wear, good colors, and importantly, they don’t look ridiculous once you leave the pool.
Simple formula, but harder to pull off than you’d think.
5. Weekend Wisdom: Gretchen Rubin
“The days are long, but the years are short.” - Gretchen Rubin
That one hits a little harder this week with Bobbi out of town and me running around with the girls nonstop.
Easy to get caught up in the chaos of it all when you’re tired and outnumbered, but I know someday I’ll miss these days too.
Trying to remind myself of that in real time.
Amen, Gretch.

Alright, that’s it from me. Time to squeeze in a little work before I’m back on dad duty.
Enjoy yourselves this weekend. Appreciate y’all being here.
Cheers,
JM
