Howdy Amigos,
Welcome to the next edition of JM’s Weekly Roundup. A quick hit of what’s new at La Matera and a few things that’ve popped up on my radar lately.
Father’s Day is sneaking up on us over here. Hard to believe this will be my second one with two little girls running around the house. Between that and getting Dadrepreneurs off the ground, I’ve spent a lot of time lately thinking about fatherhood, work, and the strange balancing act that comes with both.
TL;DR:
La Matera Highlight: Father’s Day shipping cutoff is approaching and the sale is winding down.
Something New: The Dadrepreneurs Podcast is officially live.
Worth a Read: The Old Man and the Sea remains one of my all-time favorites.
Worth a Watch: Eric Church’s commencement speech at UNC. Thoughtful, honest, and a good reminder that success is about more than just work.
Weekend Wisdom: Be where your feet are.
1. La Matera Highlight: Father’s Day Countdown
Father’s Day has a funny way of sneaking up on me every year. Maybe it’s because I’m now shopping as a dad instead of shopping for my dad, but somehow the calendar moves a little faster these days.
Our Father’s Day Sale is winding down and we’re getting close to the shipping cutoff if you’re hoping to have something arrive before next Sunday. If you’ve been meaning to pick something up for Dad, now’s probably the time.
As always, my recommendation is simple: buy him something he’ll actually use. The best gifts are the ones that get worn, broken in, and become part of everyday life.
2. Something New: The Dadrepreneurs Podcast
I’ve been quietly working on a new project called The Dadrepreneurs Podcast, which is exactly what it sounds like: conversations with dads who are building businesses, raising families, and trying not to lose their minds somewhere between payroll, school pickup, bedtime, and the occasional optimistic attempt at “balance.”
The idea came from a pretty simple place. I know a lot of men who are doing meaningful work, building companies, leading teams, and still trying to show up well at home. There’s plenty of content out there about entrepreneurship, and plenty about fatherhood, but not much that sits honestly in the middle of those two things. That’s what the Dadrepreneurs Pod is about.
My friend Jon Blair and I are sitting down with founders, operators, and builders to talk about the real stuff: ambition, family, sacrifice, what work costs, what it gives back, and how to keep your head on straight when your calendar says CEO and your kids say “I need help finding the shoe that is directly in front of me.”
I’m not launching this because I have it all figured out. Quite the opposite. If anything, this is a long-form public admission that I’m still very much in the lab. But I do think there’s something useful in having honest conversations with other dads trying to build things without losing the plot.
We record it here in my workshop in the Texas Hill Country.
I know this won’t be everybody’s cup of tea, but if it sounds like something you’d enjoy, I’d love for you to follow along: The Dadrepreneurs Podcast
3. Worth a Read: The Old Man and the Sea
I found myself going back to one of my favorites this week.
A few years ago, I picked up an early edition of The Old Man and the Sea that now lives on my desk. It’s one of those books I find myself coming back to every year or two. Not because it’s complicated, but because it isn’t.
Every time I read it, I seem to pull something different out of it. Persistence, pride, resilience, purpose. Hemingway somehow packed all of that into a book you can finish in an afternoon.
If you’ve never read it, start there. If you have, it might be worth another pass.
4. Worth a Watch: Eric Church at UNC
This one got me this morning. Eric gaves us a damn masterclass here.
Eric Church recently gave the commencement speech at the University of North Carolina, and it’s worth twenty minutes of your time whether you care about Eric Church or not.
A lot of commencement speeches end up sounding the same. Work hard. Follow your dreams. Believe in yourself. This one felt different. It felt honest. Less about achievement and more about paying attention to the people, experiences, and moments that actually make up a life.
Maybe it’s because Father’s Day is around the corner, or maybe it’s because I’ve been thinking a lot about Dadrepreneurs lately, but there was something refreshing about hearing someone talk about success without making it entirely about work.
Worth a watch if you’ve got a few minutes this weekend.
5. Weekend Wisdom - Be where your feet are.
One of the ideas that’s been bouncing around in my head lately is simple:
Be where your feet are.
As a dad, husband, and business owner, it’s easy to spend your life somewhere other than where you actually are. Thinking about work when you’re home. Thinking about home when you’re at work. Thinking about next month while you’re living through today.
I’m guilty of it more often than I’d like to admit.
Father’s Day feels like a good reminder that none of us get unlimited Saturdays, family dinners, bedtime stories, or backyard adventures. Whatever you’ve got planned this weekend, try to be fully there for it.
The emails will still be there Monday.

Hope you all get a chance to slow down a bit this weekend and spend some time with the people who matter most.
Appreciate y’all being here.
Cheers,
JM
