JM's Weekly Roundup #3 - 10-3-25

Happy Friday Amigos,

Welcome to the third edition of JM’s Weekly Roundup. A quick hit of what’s new at La Matera and a few things I’ve been stoked about lately.

TL;DR:

  • Sneak Preview: Polo Exóticos launching next week

  • Must-watch: One of One documentary

  • Substack of the Week: Rick Rubin

  • Gear Spotlight: Timex Atelier Series

  • Kicks I Missed: NikeCraft Mars Yard 3

  • Book of the Week: Blind Man’s Bluff

  • Quote of the Week: “Be happy while you’re living, for you’re a long time dead.”

1. Big Launch Sneak Preview — Polo Exóticos
You heard it here first: our new Polo Exóticos are coming next week. Think of these as the Polo Belt’s bolder cousin, following the same path and vibe as our Woven Exóticos. Rich Italian leather with that embossed faux exotic texture that adds just the right amount of bite. The email list will get first dibs, but if you want me to personally give you the heads up before they go live, sign up here.

2. Epic Documentary — One of One by Ben Bertucci

I came across this incredible short doc called One of One a while ago but just reminded myself of it this week. It follows the obsessive dedication of craftspeople who make their art truly one-of-a-kind. Ben Bertucci captures the heart of what it means to pour yourself into your work and create something that lasts. If you love stories about craftsmanship and purpose, carve out time for this one.

3. Substack I’ve been into — Rick Rubin
Part music producer, part philosopher, Rick Rubin has been dropping gems on his Substack. His mix of creativity, mindfulness, and life lessons hits hard. Short, digestible reads that make you stop scrolling and start thinking.

4. Gear Spotlight — Timex Atelier Series
Timex just released their new Atelier Marine M1A and it’s a serious upgrade from the Timex most of us grew up with. Rugged yet refined, built with a design-forward mindset. A pretty badass release from a brand that knows how to balance function and style.

5. Kicks I Missed — NikeCraft Mars Yard 3
I’m still a little salty I missed out on these: the NikeCraft Mars Yard 3. Tom Sachs’ collaboration has always been on another level, and this drop was no exception. Unique, bold, and built for more than just walking around town.

6. Book of the Week — Blind Man’s Bluff
My buddy Phil put me onto Blind Man’s Bluff by Sherry Sontag and Christopher Drew, and it didn’t disappoint. It dives into the hidden world of submarine espionage during the Cold War. It’s gripping, well-written, and one of those books that sticks with you long after you’ve put it down.

7. Quote of the Week
“Be happy while you’re living, for you’re a long time dead.” – Scottish Proverb

A solid reminder to get out there, enjoy the weekend, and soak it in.

That’s it for this week. Appreciate you being here and following along. On to the weekend.

Cheers,
JM
