I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, but like most things, it kept getting pushed behind inventory, warehouse questions, school pickup, and whatever else decided to catch fire that week.

So this is me finally putting a stake in the ground.

I wanted one place to keep the things I’m thinking about, building, using, reading, and coming back to. Some of it will be about La Matera, and some of it will be about craftsmanship, gear, old cars, travel, family, running a business, or whatever rabbit hole I ended up in that week. Which, if we’re being honest, is usually a pretty strange mix. But that mix is also the point.

La Matera has never really been separate from my life. It started with an appreciation for things that felt built right. Woven fabric with a story. Leather that changes as you wear it. Products that don’t need to shout to earn their place. That same lens tends to show up everywhere else too, whether it’s the brands I notice, the clothes I wear, the tools I keep around, the books that stick with me, or the way I think about building a business and raising a family without losing the plot along the way.

I don’t want this to feel like a brand blog, and I don’t want it to turn into some overly polished personal newsletter where every story wraps up with a neat little lesson. Real life usually isn’t that clean, at least mine isn’t. Most weeks, it’s more like trying to get good work out the door, trying to be a decent dad and husband, trying to build something that lasts, and occasionally remembering to look up long enough to notice something worth sharing.

That’s what this space is for. A place to share a few notes from the field, a few things worth checking out, a little bit of what we’re building at La Matera, and a little bit of what I’m learning along the way.

If you’re here for handmade belts, full-grain leather, and the story behind what we make, you’ll get that. If you’re here for gear, brands doing things right, books, music, old cars, travel, and the occasional thought from the warehouse, you’ll get that too. And if you’re here because you like things that feel considered, useful, and a little worn-in, I think we’ll get along just fine.
