JM's Weekly Roundup #19 - 04-10-26

Happy Friday Amigos,

I was a bit late getting the Roundup together this morning. My 1-year-old is currently workshopping a new sleep schedule that doesn’t involve much sleep. If you need me I’ll be spending the next 48 hours in and out of naps and the Masters exclusively. Now onto the roundup…

Welcome to the next edition of JM’s Weekly Roundup. A quick hit of what’s new at La Matera and a few things that’ve popped up on my radar lately.

TL;DR:

1. La Matera Highlight: New Exótico Style and Bariloche Restock

We just launched the new La Gran Reserva - Exótico Medianoche, and this one came out strong.

It leans darker and a little more edgy than some of the others in the lineup. Black on black, rich texture, and a look that feels sharp without much effort. There’s a confidence to it that just comes naturally.

It’s the kind of belt that can pull everything together in a hurry, and look great doing it. I have a feeling these won’t last long, so it might be worth grabbing one sooner than later.

Also worth noting, we just got a big Bariloche restock. Right in time for the Masters and our ‘Get on the Green’ email lineup this week.

2. Worth a Watch: Masters Week

Masters week is here.

I don’t have much analysis to offer, but I’ll have it on just about all weekend. Augusta always has a way of pulling you in. Same course every year, but it never really gets old.

It’s one of those things you can throw on in the background and then suddenly you’re fully locked in watching a Sunday back nine.

3. Worth a Read: White Noise Substack by Tom White

I’ve been on Substack a lot more lately and came across an interesting piece by Tom White this week: Rick Rubin Is the Future of Work. It’s all about how he thinks about work, creativity, and where things are headed.

The main idea is pretty simple. The old way of working is fading and what replaces it isn’t about rigid structure or forcing output. It’s about paying attention, following what pulls you in, and creating from that place.

It lines up with a lot of what he talks about elsewhere. Less noise, more signal. Less forcing, more noticing.

Good reminder if you’ve been feeling a little boxed in by how things are “supposed” to be done.

4. Brand I’m Eyeing: Tom Sachs x Nike

This Tom Sachs x Nike drop caught my eye this week.

It’s the General Purpose Shoe, which is about as straightforward as it sounds. No over-hyped design tricks, no overbuilt tech. Just something that’s meant to be worn, used, and beat up a bit.

Really interesting how he takes the design and purpose of the show back to a utilitarian style. There’s something I like about that approach.

Build something well, keep it simple, and let it earn its place over time. More purpose, less flash. That’s something I can get behind.

5. Weekend Wisdom: Rick Rubin

“The ability to look deeply is the root of creativity. To see past the ordinary and mundane and get to what might otherwise be invisible.”

I went on a bit of a deep dive on Rick Rubin after that Substack and this stuck out to me.

Most of the time the answer isn’t doing more. It’s paying a little closer attention to what’s already there.

That’s it from me. Enjoy watching the Masters if you’re tuning in this weekend.

Appreciate y’all being here.

Cheers,
JM
