JM's Weekly Roundup #20 - 04-17-26

Happy Friday Amigos,

Welcome to the next edition of JM’s Weekly Roundup. A quick hit of what’s new at La Matera and a few things that’ve popped up on my radar lately.

TL;DR:

1. La Matera Highlight: Exótico Medianoche

We launched the La Gran Reserva Exótico Medianoche and it’s been a solid addition to the lineup.

It leans darker and a little more dialed in. Black on black with a textured finish that gives it some depth without making a big scene. It’s sharp, but still easy to wear. Pair it with a black suit or some light denim to bring a clean edge to your look.

Feels like one of those belts you can throw on and everything else falls into place pretty quickly.

2. Worth a Listen: Acquired Podcast - Ferrari

Had to make a quick trip to Houston this week to pick up a new windshield for my MG and threw on the Acquired podcast episode about Ferrari and it pulled me in quick.

They go deep into how Ferrari built what it is today. Not just the cars, but the brand, the discipline behind it, and how intentional they’ve been about staying small, controlled, and focused on quality over scale.

It’s less about tactics and more about conviction. Knowing exactly what you are, and just as importantly, what you’re not.

Good one to throw on if you’ve got a long drive or a few hours to kill.

3. Worth a Read: The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown

Picked up The Boys in the Boat recently and it’s been a solid read.

It follows a group of rowers from the University of Washington during the Great Depression as they work their way toward the 1936 Olympics. A lot of grit, a lot of repetition, and a lot of figuring things out as they go.

What stands out is how much of it comes down to trust and consistency. Not doing anything flashy, just showing up and getting a little better over time.

4. Brand I’m Eyeing: Carhartt Offshoot - Wylie Welling

This Wylie Welling - Carhartt offshoot release caught my eye.

The mind behind Wylie Welling is Gretchen Valade, the great-great granddaughter of Hamilton Carhartt. This offshoot leans deep into the classic workwear feel Carhartt has been mastering since 1889.

It’s cool to see the history of Carhartt workwear come to life with a real vintage, hand-drawn touch layered in by Wylie Welling.

Feels authentic, which is harder to find than it should be these days.

5. Weekend Wisdom: Yvon Chouinard

“The more you know, the less you need.” - Yvon Chouinard attention.

Chouinard built Patagonia with that mindset, and you can see it in everything they’ve done. Focus on quality, keep things simple, and don’t add more unless it actually makes something better. attention.

The more time you spend doing something, the more you start to strip away the extra. Less gear, fewer distractions, just the stuff that works

That’s it from me. Have some fun this weekend.

Appreciate y’all being here.

Cheers,
JM
